About Shayani Gunasekara

Every confident English speaker was once a beginner, and that belief is at the heart of everything Shayani Gunasekara does.

A proud past pupil of two of Sri Lanka's most prestigious schools, Shayani's academic journey reflects the same dedication she instils in every student she teaches. She holds a Diploma, a Bachelor's (Hons) and a Master's degree, equipping her with both the theoretical grounding and the practical expertise to teach English at the highest level.

With over five years of classroom experience, including a role at one of Colombo's leading international schools, Shayani has worked with learners across all levels, from complete beginners finding their voice for the first time to advanced students refining their fluency for global opportunities.

Her teaching philosophy is simple: language learning should be empowering, not intimidating.

Beyond the classroom, Shayani is passionate about making quality English education accessible to Sri Lankan learners who aspire to reach beyond borders, and she founded Express English to do exactly that.
